BUILDERS' ASSOCIATION.

Tho Canterbury Builders' Association met last night. Mr W, Williamson (.president) was in the chair, and about twenty members attended. The chairman said that the Building Committeo had gone into the question of finance in respect to the Association's new building. It could not set? its way to go on with the scheme oil the plana prepared. It had decided on some alterations in the plans, and intended to get tho lowest lour tenderers to tender again. The chairman brought up the case of Mr W. J. Brown, an Ashburton builder, who tendered for a building subject to the risio and fall in prices of material and labour, but did not include ai provision in the general conditions of contract that the contract was subject to tho tender with that provision. In a Supreme Court case, judgment was given against him. The chairman said that, in view of tho decision, builders should includo tho provision in respect to subject to fluctuations in prices in the general conditions of contract. Mr R. Nightingale, secretary, said that the provision was worthless unless it was_ embodied in the actual agreement signed by the parties. The Town Clerk wrote stating that the City Council's By-laws Committee had set up a sub-committee to consider alterations to tho by-laws, and that the Association would be consulted on the subject. Tho letter was received. The General Committee was authorised to arrange for the annual ball on August 30th, and to add to its number for the purpose, Messrs E. Stocks, F, Horno, and B. Mooro being added by the meeting. Mr W. H. Winsor, president of the New Zealand Federated Builders' Associations, reported on a Wellington conference with representatives of tho architects in regard to new conditions of contract.
