MEETING ,OF COMMITTEE. The committee ol the Canterbury Society for the Prevention «f Cruelty to ATiimn.li met last night. ' Preeentr—Mr Jbi, Wilson (chairman), Mrs H. E. Turner/Mid Messrs J. Spiller, A, W. McGillivray and G. T. Bullook. The inspector (Mr D. J. White) reported on several cases of alleged cruelty which he had investigated since the last Pleating of the committee. The question was considered of prosecuting a man who had allowed * rope to reman embedded in the neck oi a oow. After discussion it was decided to write to the man giving him a severe warning. The inspector stud ' that lie would like to recommend to the various racing oluba, that were not already provided, that a, fire-' arm, lif only a shot gun, should be kept in readiness aft the secretary's office during' a race meeting; for the purpose of destroy, ing any animal which might meet with injuries necessitating its immediate destruction. It was deoided to write to the various racing clubs on the subject. The inspeotor reported that be had visited the Oity Abattoirs on July 6th.
