Tides. It will be high tide on the beaeh this morning at 10.2S a.tn., and. in the river at 11.5S a.m., and tomorrow at .11.11 a.m. and 12.41 (noon) respectively. With the exception of the sea breaking through the embankment on Withell's Island, and coming up through the outfall drain at Bligli street, anil flooding low-lying parts, the damage done at New Brighton generally by reason of the recent heavy rains, rough seas, and high tides, has been of a very minor quantity^ Tram Accident. The recent deplorable accident this week and the one which occurred quite recently proved food for thought regarding the present starting point of tranis. Quite a number of residents are of the opinion that, by making Sea View road, opposite George-street, the point from which all No. 5 cars should start for the city possibilities of accident such as those recorded would, to a great extent, be eliminated. As a matter of fact the suggested starting point has been favoured for many years by the residents and travelling public. 6 W.C.T.U. An enjoyable evening wis given by the local branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union on Thursday in the Methodist Schoolroom. The function took the form of a "Pay Up" Social, and was well attended. An address was given by the Kev. Huffadine, of Trinity Congregational Church, and was greatly appreciated. Musical items were rendered by Mesdames Sprosen, Dey, and Hewitt, the Misses G. and C. Weaver, Spratt, Gibb, and Eaglesome. Mrs Buschl.was the first member to score a possible, and won Mrs Harding's trophy, and also the gold pendant. A letter was received from Mr D. (J; Sullivan, M.P., regarding the suggested purchase of Mr Mulcock's property adjoining the school.. Mr.J. Eiflectutj. ' On. Tuesday evening tße club commenced its third competition and seventh round of the championship, the highest scores to date being: E. Duthie 242, J. Busehl 242, W. B. Cooke 241, and A. G. Munns 239; and J. Busehl, G. Catton, A. Duthie; and E. Dttthie with possibles. Each received one point in the ' Hotty'' Competition. . The following received points in the possible competition:—J. Busehl 2> G. Gatton 2, A. Duthie 2, V< Tims 1, B. Duthie 1, L. Besley 1, W. Cooke 1, A. G. Munns 1, And A. Duthie 1. , The club fired its annual oversea match against Ripon Club (Yorkshire, England). The conditions Were six men aside and 100 for the possible. The team dropped only six points out of a possible 600, the scores being as follows:—A. G. Munns 100, V. Tims 100, E. Duthie 100, W. E. Cooke 98, G. Catton 98, J. Busehl 98; total 594., The club's B team were defeated by the "Working Men's Club bk three points, Besley and Lilley scoring possibles for New Brighton. Scores were—Working Men's Club 272, Brighton 269. The club's A team defeated Crown Club by 274 to 269, possibles being scored by Muirson, Catton, and Wood. Senior Cadets. ~ The local Cadet Company has just had added to its armament a Lewis, machine gun. Influenza. Just now influenza is very much in evidence in New Brighton. In a number of homes three and four of the family, besides the parents, are down with the cpmplaint. Medical men and chemists' stores are having a very busy time.
