DRAINAGE POLL.
TO THE ZDITOR OF "THE PBE3S." Sir,—Referring to the addresses given in the PJccarton Town Hail in connexion with the coming drainage poll, the chairman of the meeting was asked if we get the drainage schemo, will we need high-water pressure at the same time? His reply was: Undoubtedly ; the two things will come together. Well, Sir, the rates in Riccarton are high enough now, hut with all that I say, Go for tne sewage. But to my mind the high-water pressure can- wait. As Mr Hul, tha chairman of the Drainage Board told us, the sewage scheme in Ohristrh'ireh was going 40 years before high-water pressure
was 'brought in. The point I want to impress is: If the people think that they are going to be rated for a drainage scheme and a water scheme together, the tendency may he to off a number of people voting for the drainage scheme.' I say strongly, let the water wait in the meantime, but go whole-heartedly for the drainage scheme.—YoU-/3, etc., T. M. FORD. Riccarton, Julv 3rd.
