COMMUNITY HOTEL.
A NEW SOUTH WALES PROPOSAL. (NIOM OtTB OWS CORRESrOKDEm'.) SYDNEY, June 27. Owing to the sly grog soiling in the Murrumbidgeo irrigation area, and the difficulty of bringing the offenders to heel, a proposal has been advanced for the establishment locally of a community hotel, to be conducted by a committee of citizens. The profits, if any —the qualification seems almost unnecessary in this line of busim.Si — are to be set apart for the wise government and comfort of the local community generally. There is already a community hotel at the Renmark irrigation area in South Australia, and it is proposed to follow the lines which have been adopted there. The 'Minister for Justice (Mr Ley), who, personally, is a prohibitionist, has promised to have tho proposal for a community hotel closely investigated. He is notunmindful, however, of the fact that if a community hotel is sanctioned in tliis centre, such establishments might bo demanded by people in many other parts of the State. And this does not lit in with his own conception of the ideal community, which is one where the publican and tho fair Hebe, cupbearer to his big clientele, do not exist. :
