UNKNOWN FIORD COUNTRY
EXPLORATION WORK. (SPECTAI, TO "THB PRESS.") DUNEDIN, July 5. The secretary of the Otago Expansion League has received the following letter from the Hon. W. Nosworthy -. Regarding the need for a further exploration of the unknown country around the fiord and the great improvement which a return track, especially thraugh to Lake Wakatipu, would make to the traffic, I have pleasure in informing you that arrangements have been made by the Minister of Lands for Mr T. M. Preston, surveyor attached to the office of the Chief Surveyor, Invercargill, to be detailed to undertake the exploration, for one season, of country around the Fiord, and the locating of a return track to Lake Wakatipu. 'The Surveyor-General will issue the necessary instructions in this respect, so that work can be put in hand during ths coming: season.
