SYDNEY, July 4. • A scientific expedition has returned from examining the Great Barrier Reef between Cairns and Thursday Island. The expedition secured valuable data as a' result of a month's work. It is' claimed to have an important bearing on the solution of the major problems of the Barrier Reef, pointing to the fact that probably during the long geological ages Queensland lost territory, the sea invading the coast for many miles. The former coastline is now rows of islands, the peaks of submerged mountains.
