MR A. R. BLOXAM. Mr bloxam was the eldest son or the Ker \. Bloxam, incumbent of 1«J----cross, Leicester, England, and was born in 1839. He received his education at Charterhouse and Worcester College, Oxford, and arrived at Lyttelton in 1863 lwo years later he was appointed clerk oi the Warden's Court, at Kamen, \\estinnd. In 1572 he visited England, and in TB7P lie was temporarily appointed clerk of the Magistrate's Court at Greymouth. In December or tne sanle vear fie was appointed deputy-registrar and deputv-slierrif of the Supreme Court in the Canterbury district, ana on June 29th, 1881, he was appointed Registrar, Sheriff, and Registrar of the Vice-Admiralty Court at Chnstchurch. In the first representative cricket match between Otago and Canterbury, played in Christchurch, Mr Bloxam was one of the Uar.terbury team. Mr Bloxam was also a tennis player, and prior to the late eighties, when an injury to his leg prevented him following the game, he played a good game. His daughter, Miss Bloxam, of the United Tennis Club, is one of the leading lady tennis players in Canterbury, and represented the province m last year's tournament. In 185)8, prior to his second visit to England, Mr Bloxam was presented by of the Canterbury District Law Society with an excellent painting of himself. On December 31st, 1907, Mr Bloxam retired from the position of Registrar of the Supreme Court, a position he held for a lengthier peried than any of his predecessors or successors. He was the fourth occupant of the office, his predecessors being Mr Christopher Alderson Calvert, Mr Edward Smyth Willcocks, and Mr F. de C. Malet. His successors were Mr G. A. King, Mr W. A, Hawkins, and Mr A. H. Holmes, the present Registrar, who was appointed in February, 1914. Mr Bloxam was twice married. Hi& first wife was a daughter of the late Mr Thomas Smith, M.D., of Oockermouth, England; and his second wife was a daughter of the late Mr 6. F. Martin, who was for many years manager in Christchurch of the National Mortgage Company.

A returned soldier, Mr I>avid George Bolstad, was had seen over four and a half years of war service, and had been wounded at Gallipoli and in the Somme battle, died in the Auckland Hospital on Saturday. He was one of three sons of Mr C. J. Bolstad architect, of Auckland and Warkwortn, who enlisted, the other two having died, one in action at Paeschendaele and the other of sickness. David Bolstad had risen to the rank of sergeant-major, when his wounds put him out of action. After returning to New Zealand he married, and he leaves a widow and two children.
