The chairman said that the Athletic Grounds had been purchased by the Eugby Union, and this would possibly relieve the pressure on playing areas at the Boys' High • School. More room would soon be wanted at the schools. When the Board purchased the present High School ground they thought they., were buying for,. many years ahead. But the school had outgrown the grounds, and something should be done in>the matter of. securing further grounds. He then welcomed the new members to the Board * abl6, ' ~,■ ■ ~1. i. He said if the sports were discontinued—and it seemed that an attempt was being made to cut out inter-school matches , altogether—it would go against the views of many people closely associated witn school work. The Secondary Schools' Association had interested themselves in the matter. Indeed it was outside their Bcope. Their activities + were actually meant to be confined to education alone. He did not approve of the matter at all. It was bringing in the thin edge of the wedge. _ It was decided to get the opinion of the Sector of the Boys' School, and discuss the matter at the next mee„- ' Port of Timaru.
