A significant stage in the emancipation of Egyptian women was opened when a deputation of Egyptian women left to attend an International Women's Conference at Borne. They aro pledged to a programme which came as a surprise to Egyptians generally. Among their demands the women claim more freedom than they at present have in the choice of husbands, also a modification of the marriage laws, aiming at the abolition of polygamy and divorce without due cause. The deputation had gone before public opinion had time to express itself on these views, which will revolutionise women's status in Egypt. •
