OBITUARY.

MR CHARLES WORKMAN.

Every London newspaper has published a tribute to the late Mr Charles Workman's art, his sens© of comedy, and his general popularity.

The death took place last week of Mr George Winduss, a resident of Napier since 1863. Tho deceased was born in Talford Barracks, Mancheeler, in 1840, and 1843 he came to Hobart. When 14 years of age he was at the Lodden. Victoria, goldfields, after which he returned; to Hobart. He came to New Zealand just before the Dunstan rush, and served his trade its a carpenter at Invercargill and Dunedin. The gold fever, 'however, caught him, and he went to Dunstan, returning again to New Zealand in 1863. He served in the Maori waf, and v.-as present at the battle of Omar.tnui. He was a member 'of No. 1 Company New Zealand Militia. He leaves a wife, three sons, George (Wellington), Charles (Melbourne) ,and Percy- (Christ- ] church), and four daughters, 'Mrs W. | P. Thompson <of Hastings), Mrs Percy i Bear (of Napier), Mrs W. P. Simpson (of Peilding), and Mrs A. Morton (of { Hastings).

By the death of Mr B. J. Fait*, G«e loses one of .its best-known citizens. The late Mr Faitt was born iri |he South of England 57 years ago, and as a young man was attracted by the claims of New Zealand as a land of opportunities. H© arrived in Canterbury in the early days, and took a job on a station, but life in the Outback did not appeal to him, and he wont south to Gore about 34 years ago. He acted as accountant for the firm of Brewer and Trembath, the proprietors of an extensive livery stable business, and when that partnership was liquidated, he set tip in business on his own account as a commission agent. _ He built up a very extensive business. For a number of years he was a member of the Dunedin Stock Exchange. Mr Faitt had several hobhior, being known as an ardent horticulturist, a poultrv fanner, and a keen student of natural history.
