JTOTES Ott THE RACING. It is proverbial that the weather for raoes at Biccarton is always good, bul fchot of Saturday, when the Ambexiey R.C. lield its annual fixture at headquarters, was far from pleasant; it was dull and showery all day, and rarely has the racing track been Been as heavy aa it was.

All the acceptors went to tho post for the Upen Hurdle Race-, Hereweane being sent out

a slightly better favourite than Handrafce. Tho whole lao was spoiled by Cican Sweep, who ran down the firs-', fence bad.y, and then, when still in the lead, ran ofi at the next obstacle, carrying Red Gown, Meteorite, ana Jlaeterhand with him, and badly interfering with the iavouxitc, who injured his o2 front hoof, Xzevella looked to have the race won after jumping tho last fence, but Mandrake finished, well and beat him by a head, Hereweare being some distance behind thern. Roniform, whose connexions did not expecu him to get round, completed the course, but was a long wav back. The Novice Race looked a racecourse certainty for Finora, and the two-year-old aster to Will Oakland never left tho issue in doubt, for, beginning smartly, she 6con was well clear, and eventually ran homo an easy win.ner many lengths ahead cf her nearest opponent, Redi Wink.« The Kowai Trot Handicap had just got to the stage five furlongs from home that it looked as if the favourite, Pakoiti, and Wild' Pointer were going to have Uie finish to themselves; then Pckoiti broke, and' in doing so stopped Wild Pointer badly. The two lost a lot of ground, but Pakoiti got going first, and soon ran to the front to win easily, with Wild Pointer just behind the placed division. T. Fordharo, tho owner of Underscrub, wag fined £5 for not scratching his hoTse, and: the money invested on the gelding was returned. The Aniberley Cup was a one-hors* race, for Urgency jumped to the front at barrier rise and, never being off the bit at any stage of the race, won pulling up. His performance was somewhat impressive, and he is evidently a glutton for mud 1 . ■Contempt was made a very hot favourite for the Hack Handicap. She did not find her feet quickly, and had to go round a bunched fioldl entering the straight, while Mooiland slipped through on tho rails and had the race won a furlong from the post. The favourite just failed to beat Osterman for secondmoney, after the latter hndi made the running for five furlongs. Agnola end Caretto were -n'.y heads away from Contempt. The H«st field of the day went to the post for the Open Welter Handicap, for which Ai<dour was made a screaming hot favourite. The start was good, but the favourite was always baiily placed and well out from the rails, and, not being seasoned enough to stand the strain, succumbed in the straight after having run a great race under, difficulties, while the winner, Samum, slipped up on the rails. At seven furlongs Fabrinade would have won, but he floundered badly over the last fivrlong, and once his rider moved it was all over 'with him. Then Samum beat him to the post, and Batmaid just failed to catch him. The Wattle Handicap was a splendid race. Will Oakland and The Reaver came into the course proper together, with a slight advantage of the reßt of the field, which was bunched. Half way up the straight Will Oakland looked to have The Reaver's measure, but he could never quito Bhake him off; tlien, in the last furlong, Sunny Loch joined in, and a great struggle to the winning post saw Will Oakland win by inches frcm Sunny .Lech, who beat Tho Reaver by a like margin. There was not a head between the throe of them. The Teviotdale Tret wag not much of a race. Quiver and Transport put up such a break between themselves and tho rest of the field that it looked as if the. race was all over, and) Quiver would win easily. Then, with five furlongs to go, Bill Rich, Kirriemuir, and Prince Bitrlington closed on the loaders, and it looked as if they would-head them off, but immediately Transport challenged Quiver, and the two of them went right away again. Eventually Transport won easily from Quiver, who Jpift his feet when challenged, with Prince Burlington a bad third and Bill Rich a much worse fourth.
