MAGISTERIAL. SATURDAY. (Before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was fined 10s in default 24 hours' imprisonment. A female first offender, who did not appear, was fined 20s in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Frederick McKay, a second offender, was fined 20s in default 3 days' imprisonment. SENT TO GAOL.. Frederick Norman Lloyd, aged. 24 years, came up for sentence on a charge of having stolen one bicycle valued at £lO, the property of Charles John Smith, and of 'having stolon another valued at £6, the, property of some person unknown. Tho Probation Officer (the Rev. F. Rule) reported on the man's circumstances. Accused, said he had yielded to temptation as he had lost his-, wages and could not go home to his wife without anything. He asked for probation and said that it was not right that his wife should .have to suffer for his foolishness. "Tho women always have to Buffer for a man's foolishness," said the Magistrate. Accused was convicted and sentenced to one month's imprisonment on each charge, the terms to be cumulative. ' JUVENILE COURT.

A hoy of .fifteen was fined 2s 6d for riding a bicycle' without a light.

ASHBURTON MAGISTRATE'S COURT. In the civil case, L. N. Newman v. Church Brothers, a claim for £67 17s ed, heard at the A'shburton Magistrate's Court on Friday, judgment was given > for the defendant with costs, and not for the plaintiff. , .
