The Diplomats' Dance Club, which held such a successful carnival night on Easter Tuesday,, Trill open its winter session at the Winter Garden on Tuesday, May Bth, with another of these delightful functions. Special attention will be given to the music and the novelties, and no pains win be spared to ensure a successful season. The subscription is very moderate, and should attract a large members!) \ The secretary, Mr W. S. Wauchop, will be pleased to furnish those interested with full particulars. A very delightful lecture was given by the Eev. J. Paterson to the members of the Trained Nurses' Association, in the Nurses' Club room, Royal Exchange Building, Cathedral square. The lecturer dealt with Egyptology and the history of the ancient Pharaohs, particularly that of Achaeton, whose aistory has been mainly obtained from :he writing on his tomb, and from hymns and such sources, which go to show how excellent a man he must have been. His grand conception of God was very much unlike that of the other Egyptian kings. The lecture was particularly interesting juit now, when in the excavations in Egypt so many Treasures are being unearthed. The following letter was received by Mrs Hoimes, M'atai street, iuccartoii, from Dr. G. J. lilackniore, Medical Superintendent of the Cashmere Sanatorium .-—"Dear M.s Holmes: I am ■. ery sorry not to be able to 'be present at your meeting this afternoon, but 1 cannot allow the occasion to pass without expressing to the members of the Guild my v. hole-he a. ted appreciation or tho e.xce.leut work they have clone during the year.
