Tides. I It will be high tide on the beach io-day at 1.20 p.m., and to-morrow at -•-* p.m., and in tlie river, respectively at '-'.50 p.m. a ,id 3.44 p.m. Methodist Church. The local Methodist Church 54th aunivcrsary services were held on Sunday last. The church was prettily de- j corated with white flowers and flags, ! tinder the supervision or Mrs \V. | Hooker. The Eev. Een. Dudley, F.E.A.S.. con- i '.meted the morning service, and took for his text 30th chapter of Isaiah, and part of the 15th verse. ''ln quietness and in confidence shall be vour strength." In the evening ••Anzae service" was conducted by the Eev. ■'•'. T. Eead, C.F.. who took for liis tf'.-t 15th chapter of St. Mark's Gospel, and part of the Mist verse. -'hie saved others, Himself He could not save.' 1 There was a. large congregation, which included a number of returned soldiers, and the local Senior Cadet Company, with a muster of 78. Some beautiful wreaths were placed at the base of the Roll of Honour by the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs J. (ramble, and others. The service concluded with the National Anthem, followed by the sound-* ing of the Last Post by Sergeant Birss, of the Cadet Company. The annual meeting of the members of the Church was held on Tuesday last. The Eev. F. T. Head, ministcr-in-charge, presided, and with him were the Eev. K. D. Pate.hett, Circuit minister. The treasurer, Mr C. J. Wilson, reported the income of the Church for current purposes to be £175 lis sd, and after paying all expenses there was a credit balance in hand of £22 Cs 7d. The secretary, Mr. G. E. Goodwin, in his report of the progress of the Church during the year, showed the total value of the trust property to be £6850. and the total indebtedness at £lol9'los fid. The sum of £506 Is lid had been received by collections, and this had been paid into the Circuit. The secretary and treasurer's reports were received, and unanimously endorsed. " On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Mr Goodwin proposed a hearty vote of thanks to all who had rendered service to the Church during the' past year. The resolution was carried unanimously. At the conclusion of the formal business, a very enjoyable musical programme was given, vocal solos being rendered by Mrs Hewitt, Miss M. Spratt, Mr E. .D. Sincock, and Mr Hannah; duets by the Misses Clark; recitations by the Eev. F. F. Read, while complimentary addresses 'were delivered by the Eev. E. D. Patchett and the chairman. Ladies' Miniature Eifle Club. There was a capital attendance of members at tho weekly shoot of the Ladies' Eifle Club, and several really good scores registered by some of the recently enrolled members. The best targets for the evening were those of Miss Park, who put on 33, Mrs MeClelland 31, Mrs Stokes 31, Mrs Harding 28, Mrs Buschl 28, and Miss McClelland 28. Surf Club Memorial. To-morrow afternoon, at 3 o'clock, the Surf-Club's War Memorial window will be unveiled by the club's president, Mr F. Kibblewhite, assisted by the Mayor (Mr J. Gamble). Ample accommodation is being provided in the pavilion for parents, relatives, and friends who desire to be present at the ceremony. Farewell Social. An enjoyable social was held in the Pier Hall on Thursday evening, for the purposo of wishing Godspeed and a safo return to Mr and Mrs' Nuttall, senr., of Beresford street. There were present many relatives and a host_ of friends. A very enjoyablo musical programme was given, and a number of dances indulged in. Mr and Mrs Nuttall leave shortly for the North Island, where they purpose wintering in tho Auckland and Hawke 's Bay provinces, returning to New Brighton in the early months of the summer.
