NORTH V. SOUTH ISLAND. SOUTHLAND'S APPLICATION FOR MATCH. (press association telegram.) lITVERCARGILL, April 16. The meeting of the Southland Rug'iy Union to-night decided to make Btrong repxesentations to tlie annual meeting of the Union to have the North v. South Island match played at Invercargill. The chairman \said that they could run the match at a handsome profit, and in support said that he understood that We].in„ton was the only province that beat Southland in takings a,t the Springbok matches. Ha estimated that they could taJse in th-a vicinity of £IOOO if the match were given to Southland. Southland had a record that the New Zealand Union oould hardly ovori look, and delegates should press strongly Southland's claims..
