TRAMWAY BOARD.

YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The Christchurch Tramway Board mot yesterday. Present—Messrs D. Sykes (chairman), 8. A. Staplos, J. W. Beanland, W. J. Walter, A. S. Taylor, J. A. Flesher, and tlio Hon. John Barr. The Biccarton Council wrote asking if one nip on a Is 9d concession card would be permitted to carry a passenger to Deans's avenue. At present the ono nip trip stopped at the Cricket Ground. The General Manager stated that 15 one-section rides for Is 9d worked out at 1.4 d per ride, and 30 two-section rides to Clarence road for 4s worked out at l.Cd per ride.

It was decided to convey this information to the Biccarton Council. The Waimairi Council and Sumner Council wrote agreeing to make bylaws relating to motorists passing tramcars discharging passengers. Works and Traffic. The Works and Traffic Committee presented the following report relating to track and other operations: — Eiccarton Line —Tho singlo track between Clarence road and Church Corner is in need of thorough overhaul, involving the opening up of tho track, replacement of sleepers and rails in considerable quantity. The estimated cost is £7300. The loan proposals submitted to the ratepayers in 1920 provided for double track for this section, including tho moving over of the existing single line to the position it should occupy in relation to double track. The work was not proceeded with because of lack of funds. Tho moving over of the present singlo track, would cost £3877, in addition to tho renewal costs mentioned above. The committee thinks that the necessary renewal work offers an opportunity to place tho track in a better position, which should not be missed. This would enable motor traffic proceeding to the city to keep to tho proper side of the road when meeting trains, an improvement which will be appreciated, particularly on raco days. The Public Works Department's regulations permit double track to occupy two feet less of the roadway than was tho case when the Christchurch tracks were first laid. The single track now to -be moved will therefore provide one foot moro of clearance between kerb and rail than would have been - thf case if the line had been laid nearer the centre of the road at the outset. Replacement rails and sleepers will be charged to Renewal .Reserve Fund. Trailers at St. Albans Park Terminus—The committee spent- Wednesday afternoon in inspecting Riccarton Mne, mentioned previously, and other sections, of track. It recommends that the laying of trailer siding into what is called Harrison street should be proceeded with. This will remove tho obstruction to street traffic which is now experienced in consequence of trailers standing opposite St. Albans Park. Oxford terrace.—At the request of the City Council, the committee proposes to co-operate with it in improving the street level at the intersection of Montreal street and Oxford terrace by raising the tram tracks a little. The tracks require overhaul in any case, so the present is an economical time to improve tho levels. Shelter at Racecourse roadi —An old car has done duty as a shelter for some years. It is now an obstruction to a newly formed footpath, and will be sold and removed by a storekeeper nearby, who has promised to provide vsrandah shelter for the public at a new shop now in the course of erection. . Stop at Latimer square.—A brick building being erected at the corner of Worcester street and Latimer square will obstruct the view. In-bound cars will be required, consequently, to make a compulsory stop on each trip at this spot reduce risk 'of accideCashei street, Linwood. —The City Council has suggested that this track should be raised. The matter will be made the subject of conference at an early, date. • Milton Street Stop.—The committee cannot .recommend that cars should cross Milton street before stopping, aa requested by petitioners. The report was adopted.
