v IRISH MISSION TO CHINA. (SPECIAL TO "THE FSESS.") G-BEYMOUTH, April 16. An appeal to parishioners of St. Patrick's Church was made on behalf of the Irish Mission to China, by the Rev. Father McLean, who is on a special mission to New Zealand, A generous "response was made by the congregations, no less than £125 being collected. This, with an anonymous donation of £IOO, makes the collection from Greymouth £225. State Miners' Union. Mr Thomas Feary has been elected (unopposed) president of the State Miners' Union. Mr W. Rose, executive member, has resigned. Personal. Constable Moodie, who has been stationed in Eeeftou for the past two years, has received notice of his transfer to Okarito. Obituaiy. The death occurred, at Wellington on Saturday, of Mrs Longton, relict of the late Mr James Longton. Both were well-known residents of Ross in the early days, leaving there about 3'J years ago. The late Mrs Longton leaves a family of two sons and seven daughters, one of the latter being Mrs L. H. l J assau, of Cowper street, Greymouth.
