MONTHLY MEETING.

Tie Christchurch Domains Boara art on Friday. Present: Mr Georgo ff-mef (chairman), Dr. Chas. Son, Messrs A. D. Ford, S. A. Or- . d H. T. Armstrong, M.P., 0. W. Hervey, McGregor Wright W.H. Winor H. Eaglesome, and Dr. H. T. J. Thacke'r. Apologies for absence were received from Captain A. W. Owles and Mr J- F. Scott. The chairman referred to tho recent illness of the curator (Mr J. Young), , on behaif of the members, coneraulated him on being present again after having undergone an operation. Garden Petes. Mr R. B. Owen, organiser of the Hirer Improvement Fund, wrote that the proposal to hold a three or four- , s t f e te at Easter had been abandoned. Mr Owen also wrote forwardins the balance-sheet of the Labour Dav fete, prepared by the hon treasurer Mr J. B. Neiile, and audited by Mr H T. Whittinghnm. The statement - allowed that the Board was the only body that benefitted by the addition of the children's chute, which cost «43 7s 3d. Mr Owen had to pay £2 8s 93 out of his own pocket to save, The chairman remarked that the statement was very satisfactory as far as tho Board was concerned, but was not so from Mr Owen's standpoint. It was decided to thank Mr Owen for supplying the balance-sheet. Winter Garden House. The chairman announced that his Excellency the Governor-General had consented to lay the foundation stone of the Winter Garden on the 26th inst. The stone would bear an inscription that the Winter Garden House had been built out of funds provided by a bequest from the late Mr C. A. 0. Cuningham. A committee consisting of the chairman and Messrs Jamioson and Beswick was set up to carry out the arrangements for the function. Financial and Keports. The balance at debit of current account was £572 2s Cd; the balance to credit of No. 2 account was £4527 8a lOd. The secretary (Mr W. F. Hilson) stated that if the £3OO advanced in respect of the tea kio,sk were deducted, tho debit at the end of the present financial year was about £2OO less than at the end of tho previous financial year. Accounts totalling £l4B 8s 3d were passed for payment. , The reports of the Curator and of the Sports Committee were road and adopted. Suggestions made by the chairman relative to financing .the tea kiosk contract were referred to the Finance Committee. Enforcing .By-laws. Mr Jamieson spoko of tho necessity for something being done to enforce the Board's by-laws relative to the public keeping to the paths and behaving properly. He said that tho Board's employees should be empowered to carry out the bylaws, and should have some distinguishing badge to .show their authority. It was heart-breaking to see how people ran over the beds. He bailed up some people who were doing so last Sunday, and got a volley of oaths. The, curator (Mr JV Young) expressed the opinion that it was only necessary for a few examples to be made of offenders. He suggested that two of the' Board's # employees should bo swora in as special constables, and ' should be given distinctive caps to wear. '.lt' was decided that the chairman should intoryiow the Superintendent of Police, and" ascertain what powers the Board possessed in respect of enforcing its by-laws. Yearly Subscribers. \ ,'i Mr Orchard said that he believed that a number of citizens could be got 1 to agree to become yearly subscribers 1 to\,the Board's funds, and- thus help , .their finances. He had mentioned the ) , idea to. several people, who had heart- (' ily approved of it, and thought that .- ,there would be no difficulty in getting .> SOO people to subscribe £2 2s each. t, ' It was decided to refer the sugges- \ 1 tion to the- Finance Committee.
