MARIST CLUB.. Tho annual meeting of the Marist Old Boys' Association was held last evening, the Rev. Bro. Phelsn presiding. The annual report stated that the committee desired to congratulate members on a successful year on the football field and to express its gratification on tho manner in which the members of the club had pulled- together. Tho senior fifteen had, for the fourth year in 'Succession, annexed the Canterbury Rugby Union's D.O.L. Shield, a performance that, had only been once surpassed since the inception of the present competitions. The members might be proud of such a record, and the younger members of the club should strivo to emulate tho deeds of the senior members. Though not successful in winning the junior flag, the second fifteen registered a good performance. The committee had full confidence in the ability of the younger members. The third grade toam was not very successful, but played the game in the true sporting spirit that should characterise football. The fourth grade once more annexed the cup for that grade, due mainly to the grand spirit prevailing among the members of the team, and also to the able generalship of A. Mundy. In the fifth and sixth grades there wore some very promising and keen young players, and although they aid not win the championships, ' thoy always played the game, and both teams ended as "runner3-up." The school team was again successful in winning the Public School Shield for the A division, this being the seventh time in eight years competing, and the light-weightß wore run-ners-up. Altogether the form shown by the younger nwnbers had been most pleasing to memberFand supporters of the club, and the committee trusted that by strict attention and training and a desire to assist the club, members would make tho coming seaBon even more successful than the past, During tho year Messrs L. Peterson and IP, Smyth represented New Zoaland on the Australian tour, and in Canterbury representative matches Messrs Andersen, Diedrioh, Klrwan, Mullins, Peterson, and Ellis worthily uphold tho honour of the club. While tho club had gonerally enjoyed a successful season, members were much perturbed over recent happenings in connexion with the Marist Brothers 1 schoolbftys being debarred from competing In the primary schools sports competitions, happenings - that threatened to undermine the very foundations of the club. Comment in the report was unnecessary, but members would be given a full opportunity to express their opinions at the meeting. The proposal to secure club rooms must now be seriously considered by members, and thanks were due to Sir George Clifford and the others supporters of the club who had given much valuable support to the project. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance ef £2 2s 6d, and an amount of £4Ol 2s 6d in hand for the building fund, The report and balance-sheet were adopted. It was decided to accept the Invitation ef the Marist Brothers' Club (Wellington) for a team to visit Wellington to play at Easter, Officers were elected as follow: —Patron, His Lordship Bishop Brodie; president, Sis George Clifford; olub captain, Mr L, Peterson; vice-captain, Mr I\ Smyth; secretary, Mr J, Coffey- treasurer, Mr A, McDonald; delegates to the Catholic Federation, Messrs If. Hartigsn and V. Toemey; delegate to Sports Protection Association, Mr J, Coffey; delegates to Canterbury Rugby Football Union, Messrs G. P. Payne, J. Coffey, F. Smyth, and P. P, J, Amedeo. It w,as decided to recommend to the Rugby Unlen that the constitution of the committee of the union Bhould be altered to provide that one representative from each club Bhould be a member of it, It was pointed out that -under the present system it was possible fer a olub to be excluded altogether frem representation on the Management Committee, It was decided that the evening day be March 10th, » The chairman stated that it had been expected that the matter ef the school teams taking part in the public schools competitions would have been discussed, but owing te the absence of Bishsp Brodie it was not feasible te do so. Bishop Brodie had undertaken certain negotiations connected with the matter, and the best thing, he thought, was for the members of the executive to wait on the bishop and sea what ha' had done and then call another general meeting later if necessary. Mr Payne thought the best plan would be for the delegates to the union to wait on the bishop, and then they would knowexactly what they had to do at the annual meeting of the union. The matter wms not further discosied.
