OBITUARY.
MR w. l. crystal. Mr William L. Crystal, who for many years was chief detective in C'hristcnurch, died on Monday at 334 Stanmore road. The late Mr Crystal, who was in his 78tii year, was born in ireland, where, prior to coming out to New Zealand, he was in the police lorce. He joined the force at ton- in 1880, and after remaining m that city for nine years, he was transferred to Auckland. Seven years later he went to Napier and in 1898 he came to Christchurcu as chief detective, retaining that position until his retirement from the service in 1908 The funeral, which was private, took place yesterday, the body being interred in the Avonside churchyard.
