TTie ohire Line ateamer Banffshire, bound for Sydney, encountered a torritk> hurricane in the Bristol Channel. During the height of the stomi a lire broke out in the forehold, where the cargo included thirty tons of dynamite. Th<T tire was extinguished and the ship docked safely at Avonmouth. The American liner President Arthur arrived at Plymouth eighteen hours late owing to having to heave-to in a gnle in the Atlantic, where the wind attained a velocity of 120 miles an hour. The bad weather caused a remarkable change ou the beach at Portland, where fishermen were able to examine, for the first time for halt a century, the remains of the sailing ship Royal Adelaide, which was wrecked in 1872. There was much gold in the vessel, and many sovereigns a.n<.{ Spanish coins dated 1871 have recently been recovered. [The Australian emigrant ship Royal Adelaide was wrecked bn Chesil beach, between "Weymouth and' Portland, on November 2oth, 1872. Five lives were lost.] •
