NAVY LEAGUE.
GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING The general committed of the Canter* bury Branch of the Navy League, met last night: Present: Messrs H. J. Marriner (president), Misses Macbeth ' and Saunders, Lt. H. Anderson. MM., and' Messrs T7. Walton, J. J. J. Dougall, T. H. Foster and A. K. Anderson. • The financial statement showed that receipts amounted to £l3l lis 7d, and expenditure to £l'2l 18* 10d.,, bank balances were set down as: Cur> rent account, £9 12s 9d; suspense account, £6 10s; general account in P.O. Savings Bank £6 10s sd; general account on deposit until September 9th, 1923,. ; £500; general account on mortgage' £300: sea-training fluid/account, £2vX). - \ • • , '"■■ v ' ■•■? ■.. The chairman stated tEat ■ Commander G. Sbereton' and Surgeon-Lieut.-; J. A. Watson, of the H.M.S., Laburnum, had visited him on Monday, afternoon, and he had since paid a return visit. The Commander had expressed himself as being anxious to meet the members of the Navy League. Motor trips had been arranged for the petty officers, and they had stated that an enjoyable time had been spent. The Commander and three officers had also been taken to Lake Coleridge yesterday. The Commander had thanked the League for what it had done and said the only disappointment was that the ship could not stay longer. A committee consisting of Mrs Beadel and Messrs Dougall and Jameson was set up to go into the matter of commemorating SI. George's Day.
