BOROUGH COUNCILS.

, AKAROA. The Akaroa Borough Council met on "Wednesday. Present—The Mayor (Mr' F. E. Davis) and' Cra.. H. Wilkins, 0. W. Leete, A. J. Faithful, H. J. Barnham and J. D. Smith. Leave of absence waß granted to Crs. C. Stewart, W. Pool and T. "Wilson. Before commencing the business, the Mayor referred in sympathetic terms to the death of Mr Cr. W. Thomas, who, up till Christmas time , had been Town Clerk of Afcaroa for over' 15 years. His motion of condolence and sympathy with the bereaved family was carried in silence, all standing. The Mayor stated that, in company with Cr. Wilkins, he had visited the Council's reserves near Dromoro. They had discussed the matter of revising the lenses and now recommended that the Council should give special consideration to £he clauses of the proposed new leases and to the matter of disposing of them. It was decided to hold a special meeting of the Council this evening to consider the matter. Messrs Meares, "Williams and Holmes wrote in reference to easements drawn up in connexion with pipe lines from Balgneri and G-rehan Valley Creeks to the reservoir, explaining what was being done, and asking for i, certain information in respect to one of them. ~ - A communication from the same firm dealing with the proposed diversion of the Grehan Valley Creek was held over for consideration until next meeting The Banks Peninsula Patriotic Society wrote asking for the payment of £IOO, part of the loan advanced to the Council and held .at call.—Granted. At the request of the Aknroa Athletic Sports Club, it was decided to allow a' charge to be made for admission to the municipal recreation ground on March 31st. In reference to the Canterbury Progress League's representations concerning the proposed increase of telephone charges, it wns decided, on the motion of Cr. Leete. to protect, enmhifirally against any increases in country districts. The Mavor stated that Mr Geo. Armstrong had notified him that the Canterbury Hosnitit Board, at its meeting that morning, hnd decided to erect a new hospital on the site selected in Akaroa. at an approximate cost of £BOOO. Councillors eroremwd PTntificatjon at the news, and on Cr Barnhom's motion, a vsrv cordial vote of anprecifttion was accorded Vr Armstrong for his services on Aia-Toa's behalf.
