The latest suggestion in regard to the Palmerston North war memorial is that it should take the form of a carillon of bells. The idea comes from Messrs J. H. P. Strang ; and Maurice Cohen, both of -whom are abroad. Importing by letter to the Memorial Committee, they stated that a carillon of 32 bel)« would cost, about £2COO. Mr Stran_ thought the figure of a soldier had been "done to death." He said he had given serious consideration also to a design similar to the Folkestone memorial; it consisted of, a large base of three tiers, with, a very fine female figure in bronze, about 7ft or Bft high, rising. from the centre. The figure holds a 6taff on a cross and Union Jaes, but Mr Strang suggested that the flag for the proposed memorial should be the New Zealand Ensign. In the left hand the figure holds a large WTeath of laurel. The committee has decided to defer consideration of the form 'of-the memorial until Mr Cohen returns from Ikigland,
