OBITUARY.

With tragic suddenness Mr P. F. . O'Leary, licensee of the Old Bank j Hotel, Timaru, died on Tuesday. Mr O'Leary was bpni at Waimate, where ho received his education, and after-" wards removed to St. Andrews, whsra he assisted his father in t-fcs manage- ; ment of the Banfcfield estate. A fewyears ago the Government purchased Bankfieid for cloasr settlement, and. since then Mr O'Leary had lived in [ Timaru. For the past twelve months he had been licensed of the Old Bank ' Hotel, and had just purchased the Empire Hotel, of which, he was to take possession on) March Ist. The deceased was a popular man, in the prime of life. A keen sportsman, Mr O'Leary | was an enthusiastic and valued member of the South Canterbury Jockey Club, the Timaru Trotting Club, and the South Canterbury Caledonian Society and several smaller sporting ; bodies. The death occurred at Wellington, on Monday night, after a long illness, ofi Mr Harry Buddie, one of the most esteemed members of the legal profession in Wellington, and a member of the firm of Messrs Buddie, Anderson, and Kirkcaldie. A son of Mr J. F. Buddie, accountant, the late Mr Buddie waa went to Wellington when a, boy and came to Wellington when a boy and waa educated at Wellington College. Afe first embarking upon- a commercial career, he subsequently commenced the study of law, and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court in 1801, and as a. barrister six years later. For some yeaia he waa with tha legal firna of Messrs Kirk and Wilson, and in 1907 he entered into partnership witt» Mr H. E. Anderson, the firm then being known as Messrs Buller. Anderson, and Buddie. In 1918, Mr E. K. Kirkcaldie, joined the firm, the name of which was changed to Messrs Buddte, Anderson, and Kirkcaldie. At the time of his death Mr Buddie was a member of the council of tbe Wellington Law Society. As. a boy, tho late Mr Buddie played Rugby for the Wellington College fifteen, and he was afterwards a prominent member of the Old Boys' Club. At all times keenly interested in local government affairs, Mr Buddie was a member of the Wellington City Council from 1913 to 1915, The late Mr Buddie was prominently associated with the Masonic craft, was a leading member of Lodge Aorangi, and held office in District Grand Lodge (E.C.). In December, 1908, he married Miss Cardno. of Auckland, and ia survived by n widow and four eons. The late Mr Buddie'was in the forefront of his proSession as a lawyer, and he enjoyed the reputation of being mi eminently sound! adviser.
