SEVERE STORM IN OTAKI DISTRICT.
(PBESS ASSOCIATION TSLEOHAM.) WELLINGTON, February 27. . Heavy rain in the Otaki district was responsible for rivers and streams rising much above normal. Tho Otalci river rose quickly, and at the Otaki bridge flowed across the road, and carried away a piece of land', but luckily the stock was saved. At Rangiuru the water was aa high ns the fence tops," and the ford over the "VVaitohn river was impassable. In tho Otaki Gorge the water carried away tho "Waitatapia. bridge, and cut off settlers from the main road. At Manukau lightning was most vivid, and pigs, cows, .and calves were Skilled. Other damage was done. The storm is regarded as the worst for many years.
