THE GARDEN FETE.

IN BOTANIC GARDENS TO-MOEEOW. j For ths Garden Fete organised by the Domain Board for the purpose of raising funds to defray the cost of rebuilding the Tea Kiosk in the Eotanio Gardens, the arrangements axe well forward. The new kiosk will be sufficiently far advanced (though not quite completed) to permit of the formal' opening ceremony being performed by the chairman of the Board, Mr George Harper, at the fete to-morrow afternoon. A special attraction of the fete will be the Highland and Irish dancing competitions, for which four teen gold and fourteen silver medals have been provided. A special platform for the dancers hag been erected' in the middle of the children's paddling pond, the idea being that the onlookers wil l be ablo to watch the dancing from the banks of the pond without interfering with the dancers and the pipers. The big pa.'m house will bo converted, for the time being, into a house for the sale oi pot plants, and a very varied and excellent collection of these will bo offered to the public There will be an ice cream and soft drinks tent not far from the palm house, and opposite the iob« garden there will be a tent for the sale of postcards, and also ot books on gardening. Mr James Young, the curator, has just published a practical littlo work on rose culture, and copies of it will be on salo at this tent.

The lain experienced this week has made tho Gardens look very lovely, and, given good weather for the rest of tho week, they ahould present a perfect picture of horticultural beauty on Saturday.
