Acceptances for the Wyndham R.C. s fennual meeting close to-night at five o'clock. Acceptances for the Canterbury Park Trotting Club's meeting close on Wednesday next at noon. Th© meeting this 3"ear "will be held at the Metropolitan Club's grounds at Addington. Further riding engagements reported from Ellerslio are A. Oliver for Murihaupo in the Great Northern Foal Stakes, and the Taranaki apprentice, ,J. M. Simpson, for Glen Cluny in the Auckland Cup. Tho imported horse Callaghan has been thrown out of work, and it '=» understood that it is most probable that ho will not rac e again. The son of Fairy iving and i'enny Forieit nas been a disappointment as a racehorse. Danger Zone is to contest tho Shortland Plate at El]erslie on the' opening dav, and will then bo railed south to take his place in the Marton Cup field on New Year's Pay. Winning Hit has made a most favourable impression at Ellerslie, and it is a certainty that he will be one of the best backed horses on th© day. He is bowling along well in his -work, and Aucklanders are realising that on his three-year-old form he is the pick of tho handicap for the Auckland Cup. The following answer to a correspon dent to the Auckland "Star" is of interest: —Tho trainers of both King's Trumpeter and Danger Zone were quite within their rights in racing their charges in shoes at Te Awamutu, and their action is covered by Part XXV., Rule 6 of the rules, which reads as follows: —"If it be intonded to run a horse in shoes heavier than racing plates the owner or trainer of such horse must report the fact to the stewards prior to weighing out." In tne case you query such -was done, and a notice put up on the hoard drawing the attention of the public to the fact. Mr G. L. Stead had a bit of bad luck last week, his colt Sottana getting away and having a wild gallop on his own. He did not do himself any serious damage, but -was very sore afterwards, and is not likely to be seen out at tne A.R.C. Summer Meeting. Mr Stead arrived at Ellerslie on Thursday witn Tarleton, who is engaged in the handicap events at the big fixture. The news from Hamilton respecting the condition of B. Conway, who was injured during the progress of thb "Waikato Hunt Club's meeting, is not at all satisfactory, * and it is stated that it will be necessary to have the thigh reBet, writes "Whalebone." If this is so, it will be distinctly unfortunate for the injured horseman, who already has had a spell of about two months in bed. Kilreid, whq was taken to Western Australia a short time ago, had.Bis hrst race on December 2nd. He started at a forlorn price, yet with Bst ,121b was a good second to Salveo, 7st 61b. Kilreid did not get away very well, yet had the winner doing his best to score by a neck.

Mr McManemin did not consider the fcrrn shown by Epitaph in winning the Waimangu Handicap at To -invamutu last .Saturday warranted his putting any extra weight on her for tho Rail- ■ 4 • /way._ Handicap, and this stop seems justified, states an Auckland writer. I/pitaph won rfcely, although eh© may not) have .had as much to spare as was \ imagined, but the field she beat was I very moderate, and it was hardly a good trial for a race like the Railway Handicap. , The appeal lodged by A. E. Cox •gainst his disqualification by the ?• Racing .Club Committee,' ana which haa been endorsed by the Auckland District Committee, is to be heard by the judges appointed by the Conferenee m Auckland on December 27th. best of tlie Aucklanders engaged—at least in the opinion of the handicapper —but his exploits do not impress very considerably for a race of this kind. King's Trumpeter is reported a more or less uncertain starter, but "those who witnessed his stylish performance in tho C.J.C. Fendalton Handicap would not care to let him run looso if sent to the post fit and well. Boomerdsiy, on tho strength of his dual success last week, should have a. good measure* of support; indeed, a glance back at the records of tho last Summer Meeting at Ellerslie are decidedly in favour of the Quin Abbey £;o : <J.ng. Of thoso weighted below 7st, Murnahi will probably be tho best supported, and next to him Marble Slab and Archie rend best. As tl:o day of decision has approached, tho race, has, if anything, developed a more open .appearance. Tno bracketed pair. Royal Box and Scion, and Winning Hit must be mentioned, with Maioha a decided possibility. Tho Railway Handicap field is hardly as select as that which contested the stewards' Handicap, although little fault can bo found -with the trio at tho top —Solfanello, The Haw!;, and Gl'entru'm. With equaily good passages in tho race, it would be interesting to see which would finish in front, but racing 'round a turn causes luck to play much too big a part in big fields in sprint races. Both Glontrum and The Hawk should beat tho top-weight, but knowing how good The Hawk is, Olentruin will bo truly tested. Dovelet, Bst 91b, is now well up in the weights, and should be held' safe by a compatriot in Tho Welkin gelding Pavo. The- hitter seems kindly treated, and glancing ba*: at his record of weight -carrying, he seems a very dangerous candidate. Golden Bubble, Bst 41b, seems outclassed, and the news concerning Highland is not good, but the next three on the list, all of the gentler sex, Epitaph, Lady Ridicule, and Gold Light, are a formidable trio. Epitaph has not pleased the critics in tho North, but that will not prevent her from, starting ono of the best backed in tho race. Lady Ridicule is a most promising mare and/a brilliant beginner. Sho has had an interrupted preparation, but for which she would be a very prime fancy. Gold Light, if not th© equal of Enthusiasm, was so on Oaks day, and kli© must be very little her inferior at any time. Enthusiasm at 7st slb in the Railway Handioap would read particularly -well, so that, providing Gold Light! has gone on thei right way, sho must be given a .great chance. Prince Abbey is useful, but on past form not up to this company, and of the. light weights Royal Blood is the likely one. There is some doubt just how good is this four-year-old son. of Our King, and providing a capable light-weight can be found to ride him, ho should play a prominent part. The Stewards' Handicap was voted very open, yet Glentruin made no race of it, but it does not seem likely that the Railway -will be, won in so easy a fashion. The northerners should hold their own with Royal Blood, Lady Ridicule, and Pavo. To many people the race of the day will be the Great Northern Foal Stakes, and to the general racing public it should bo brimful of interest. Queen March and Bathos will probably dispute favouritism, with Tukia not far away, but South Island' sportsmen will not be surprised to find Murihaupo in the firing line at the finish. race at least should give a true line as to which is the best two-year-old, the only regrettable feature being that only one colt, in Sottana was left in the race, and he is practically ascertain non-starter. The minor races would gladden the hearts of some country executives if they had them on their programmes. Horses that have' some form to recommend them, and seem well placed are Danger Zone, Moorland, Fl'orent, Passenger, Laughingstock, Ares, and Lucius. . • Arrangements have been completed for a special train, "to leaye Christchurch on Wednesday conveying horses to Greymouth. Owners and trainers who wish to send horses by this train must book their space to-day. The Wellington Trotting Club's nominations .have exceeded anticipations, those for the Gold Cup including such top-notchers as Onyx, Great Hope, Alto Chimes, Latona, Ahuriri, and Childe Pointer. The remaining races do not suffer at all by comparison, and given fine weather, to judge by tlie present prospects, the meeting cannot nelp being all unqualified success. Bumper attendances are the rule at the Asiiburton Trotting dub's meeting on Boxing Day, and the gathering this year promises to be as popular aa ever. The fields are just the right size for interesting racing, and many .of the best-known performers of the light-' harness sport claim engagements. For the convenience of Christchurch residents there will be two special trains, to leave at 9.15 a.m. and 9.35 a.m. The first race is timed to start at U. 30 a.m. . At the monthly meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club Committee, the secretary of the Jtf.Z. Racing Conference notified that the club's application to change the dates of the Cup Meeting from Bth and 10th to 7th, Bth and 10th February had been approved. The Mufister of Internal Affairs approveil of the club's decision to addya day to the Cup Meeting, the extra ope being for charitable objects, and forwarded the necessary totalisator licenses. The seoretary of the Racing Conference notified that'Mr G. Ifi. Curry would attend the summer meeting' as stipendiary steward arid Mr J. Torrance as raceCourse inspector. It was resolved that the secretary be instructed to write to Mrs A.. E. .Cohen expressing the sym- j pathy of the Dunedtn Jockey Club with her, and |i|r family in the loss they have sustained, and an assurance of the very sincere regard of this committee for the late Mr Cohen, and an acknowledgment of the many marks of his *riendlv"interest in t>>e club and "of hi* lifelong active and able support of all that is best in racing. 7 I ' An Auckland message saya that Infante Was withdrawn from the Christ-
