SCOTTISH SOCIETY.
The monthly ceilidh, of the Scottish Society was held on Thursday evening, when e> large gathering of Boots and their friends assembled. Chief John L. Aitken presided; supported by his chieftains. Piper Patterson opened with a selection on the war pipes. Three new members were elected. The evening was devoted to the children, and was known as the children ceilidh. The raueioai items, recitations, dances, and other items were carried out solely by the juveniles, whose presentation of the pieces allotted to them was marked by great ability. A collection was taken up during the evening in aid of a picnic which takes place'on Boxing Day. The chief, on'behaU of the Greymouth Caledonian Sooiety, presented Mr McEenzie, their late secretary, with a Highland dress. Mr McKenEie- returned thanks. The various items were as follows:—Songs, ' Misa E. Pearce, Miss Shier, Miss L. Aitchison, Master • Erio Pearce; recitations, Miss Brewins, Miss L. Aitchison, Master E. Pearce; duet, the Misses -Smith; piano solo, Miss Giliison. Dances: Fling, the Misses .Craig (2); -Seaun Triubhais, Miss Cogle; Gillie Callum, Miss B. Craig; Hornpipe, Miss Daphne Marshall; Highland 'Reels and Reel o' Tulloch. The accompanists were Mrs E. A. Smith, Mr Aitchison, and.Miss Pearce.
