TREES IN BELFAST.
TO THE EDITOR 01 "THE PRESS.' Sir,—Some years ago my late father purchased and planted at his own expense sufficient deciduous trees to plant the streets in Belfast, under the supervision of the- Waimairi County Council. To my surprise someone-placed oxide of iron around them, consequently the trees are apparently dead. I should like to know who gave authority la. this wanton destruction, burely it was up to the Waimairi County Council to call a public meeting to decide if they should be destroyed. The Waimairi County Council are permitting trees to be planted in Fendalton and elsewhere, and if this destruction has been done without the consent of the Council, they should institute proceedings at once so as to let the guilty person know there are other ratepayers in the township besides himself. —I am, etc., W T . AUBREY NICHOLLS. St. Albans, December Bth.
