BANDITS IN CHINA.
STATEMENT BT WU PEI-FU.
(Received December 10th, 11.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, December 9.
The "Chicago Tribune's" Hunan-fu correspondent interviewed General Wu Pei-fu, to whom the Peking Government forwarded the Powers' protest against the bandits' capture of foreign missionaries. Wu Pei-fu expressed resentment at the Powers' desire to send a Commission of investigation into banditry. He declared he was well able to handle the situation, though he would provide facilities for the Commission's investigations. He said the National troops in the Honan Province were now surrounding the bandits, and all measures would be taken to free the prisoners. Troops would also be assigned to protect foreigners remaining in the province. It was hoped to accomplish all this by the end of December.
