HURUNUI LICENSING COMMITTEE.
At a meeting of tlie Hurunui Licensing Committee there were present—Messrs "Wyvern 'Wilson, S.M. (chairman), G. E. Holton, and J. M. South. The following transfers were granted:— "Waiau Hotel, "Waiau Valley, Joseph Woster to W. W. Mcßae; Pier Hotel, Kaikonra, Percy Crosgrave to William Kenneth McKeniie. The application of "William Scolis Greig to transfer to "William H. Cook the license of the Ashley Bank Hotel, Ashley, was adjourned to January 10th to enable the present hVnnsee to comply with the ixrr in .respect to advertising the transfer.
The Maori prophet Eua, who several years ago created a sensation in the Urewera country, has come into more pleasing prominence recently by the gift of 60 acres of land ut Waimana, a settlement near Opotiki in the Moewera country, to the Presbyterian Church for the purpose of erecting a technical college for Maoris. The offer was made to the missionaries, to whom Kua has been of considerable assistance, and was accepted by the Presbyterian General Assembly at its recent session at Auckland.
