SUPREME COURT. Probates in th» wills of the following doceased persona were granted, last week by Ha Honour the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout:—Elisabeth Quick (Mr J. A. Fleaher), William Manifold M«tson (Mr M. J. Knubley). Elizabeth Johnston (Mr A. S. Taylor). Probates were granted by his Honour Mr Justice Adams as follows: Emily Sarah Atyeo (Mr A. F. Wright) George Helliugs (Mr K. Kennedy). A letter of administration in tho estate of Henry Clark (Mr J. A. wa3 granted by Sir Robert Sout. MAGISTERIAL SATURDAY. (Beioro Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) NAME SUPPRESSED. A young man pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing 383 tanned rabbitskins, valued at £i 13a, the property of William Travis. Senior-i>etective T. Gibson said that this wa3 a first offence. The accused, who had borne a good character, eaid that iie was under the influence of liquor at the time. He would never have committed the offence if he were in his right senses. "I was tanning- soma skins for a man, but spoilt some, and stole these skins to make up the number," he said. He wa3 convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within tweive months if called upon. Accused, in asking if his name might be suppressed, promised to make a fresh start. Senior-Detective- Gibson said accused was • returned soldier, and that nothing 1 previous was known against him. In view of the special circumstances of the case, the Magistrate ordered that, the accused's name be suppressed. THEFT FROM SLOT TELEPHONE. A lad just over sixteen years of age pleaded guilty to stealing a microphone from a slot telephone in Christchurch, the property of the Postmaster-General. "There have been several microphanes stolen in the city lately," said Senior-Detec-tive T. Gibson. "The boy has been experimenting in wireless telegraphy." The boy's father appeared and gave tho-lad a very good character. The case was adjourned for twelve months, the boy to remain under the supervision of the juvenile probation officer. "I shall treat the case as a juvenile offence," said the Magistrate. "If everything is satisfactory in twelve months I shall not record a conviction." REMANDED. William Henry Smith and "Walter Fraser Harkness were charged with stealing a hat, valued at 255, the property of a person unknown. On the application of the police a remand was granted until to-day. JUVENILE CASE. A girl,. 14 years of age, was charged with stealing a gold necklace, a gold locket with cross attached, and £2 in money, the property of Joan Elizabeth Atkinson. The total value of the articles stolen was £9. It was stated that the girl was employed in a small pastrycook shop, and stole the money from a till/'together with the other articles mentioned. She had never been in trouble before. Senior-Detective T. Gibson said that the girl had apparently spent the money in amusements, while the jewellery had not yet been recovered. The Magistrate adjourned,the case for twelve months, the girl to remain under the full and absolute control of the juvenile probation o'fScerr. Iter father was ordered to pay the value of the property lost. AMBERLEY. Donald John McLean, Leitbfield, tractionengine proprietor, charged with a=saulting W. 6. Sherlow, licensee of the Royal Hotel', 'Leithfield, was convicted and fined £lO, with £3 costs. On a further charge of wilfully damaging hotel property at Sefton, he was convicted and ordered to pay the cost of ihe damages. Alexander Love, for a breach of the Arms Act. was fined 10s and costs. George Robert Whittin?ton. licensee of the Star and Garter Hotel, Waikari, for supplying liquor to an intoxicated person, was fined £5 and costs. A second charge against him of keeping open for the Bale of liquor after hours was dismissed.
