PARISH FETE.

FUNCTION AT PHIUJPSTOWN. The Phillipstown Parish fete was opened yesterday afternoon in the grounds of the Maori Girls' College, Ferry road. Although the attendance was not large at the actual opening ceremony, greater public support was accorded as the day wore on, and given a modicum of fair weather, to-day, when the function will be continued in the afternoon and the evening, great success is hoped for. The proceeds of the fete will be devoted to the funds of the Phillipstown Anglican Church. No more appropriate place than the grounds of the college could have been selected. The booths, of which there was no small number, were situated in sheltered spots amongst the trees, and plenty of lawn space was available for those who wished a quiet saunter round. In the absence of the Mayor, the Rev. C. A. Fraer declared the fete open, and wished it all success. The speaker was accorded a welcome by the pupils of the college, who gave the Native "Powhiri" an action song of greeting. Following were the stall-holders:— Main Guild stall, Mesdames Hand, Blowers, and Wright, and Miss Nash; Sanctuary Guild stall, Mrs Oakes and Misses Craddock and Bashford; cake stall, Mesdames Cragg, Cole, Morris, and Miss Murray; sweets stall, Mesdames Douglas, Chivers, Cunningham, Miss Spence, and members of the Friendly Girls' Club; flower stall, Mesdames Fraer and Bolt; produce stall, Mrs Mapplebeck; Mission stall, Miss Fraer and members of the Missionary Society; ice-rcream stall, Mr Morris and members of the Young Men's Guild; side shows, Mr L. Harper and members of the young men's Bible class; tea stall, Mesdames Livingstone and Crespin; bran tubs, Mrs H. Hobbs, W. Bates, and members of the Young Men's Guild.
