There are heavy bookings of paslengers for the Moeraki, despite tho alarming circulars issued by Communists urging people not to trust their lives to volunteer labour. An emergency meeting of the Seamen's Union is discussing the new situation caused by the engagement of volunteer labour, MELBOURNE, December 7. The steamship owners have asked the Federal Arbitration Court to fix a date for tho hearing of their aplieation for important variations in tho »eamen's award. The main variation proposed is one bearing on the Seamen's Union and its responsibility of assisting owners in obtaining crews to work their ships on the terms of the award. The applicaton is designed to circumvent the job control tactics of Uie union. MORE TROUBLE IN MOERAKI. (Eecoived December 7th, 10.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 7. Fourtoen members of the deck crew of tho Moeraki resented tho appearance of volunteers on board, and refused duty. The Union Company thereupon took out warrants- for their arrest. They were sentenced to seven days' imprisonment, with hard labour. The company announced that _ the arrests would not affect the sailing of the Moeraki, as the seamen's places would be filled by volunteers.
