DANCE RECITAL AND CONCERT.

In spite of counter-attractiors there was a large audience at the Choral Hall last evening, when a grand concert of exceptional merit was presented. 'lhe programme was lengthy, and the various ite:-ns were well received. Tho first part was taken up with a charming dance recital by the pupils of Miss B Maedonald. Miss Maedonald is cne of the foremcat teachers of dancing in Christchurch, and tho capable manner in which tho instructs her pupils wns well exemplified last ovemn s . I'he pupila one and all were thoroughly at home, ar.d their extorts, solo and in unison, were supremely artistic iho dancing was carried out under the supervision of Mr \V. 0. S. Adams. The second part was filled with musical items. Ihe Umstshnroa Lyr:,; lour are always welcomed on the «U ? e, and their two numbers were thoroughly appreciated. The cuartet consisting of Messrs 8. J. Mies Maodonald s orchestra played some oleasing mimjjß' . l I , r oc6rd '' of the concert were in aid of the Playground Improvement Fund of the PhiWpstown School, and it is expected the fund will benefit to a considerable extent. During the evening progress results of the genera! election were announced, and were followed with great interest.
