THE MAORI SEATS.

SOUTHERN MAORI. MR UOT RE-BiLECTED. The election of a member for the Southern Maori electorate was held yesterday, and resulted in Mr W. H. TJru, the sitting member, being returned with 286 votes,, with the results of two booths to come in, his nearest opponent being Mr P. H. Mac Donald, with 200 votes. Aa usual, the election was conducted without any electoral roll, and as each native was shown how to vote at the booth, there were no informal votes. Owing to adverse weather conditions, the deputy- returning officer was unable to cross Foveaux Strait, in consequence of which the polling at Ruapuke Island was abandoned. There were five candidates: — H. W. TJru and W. I>. Barrett (Tuahiwi), R. A. Wftitiri (Biuff), T. M. Erihana (PuketeraJri) and P. H. MacDonald (Picton). With the exception of a return from The Neck (Stewart Island), which would be too small to have effect one way or the other, the results were announced by the returning officer, Mr J. R. Sansom, aa follows: —
