NEW BRIGHTON. The New Brighton Borough Council me* last night. Present—The Mayor (Mr J. Gamble), and Cra. F- Muirson, F. Sincook, J. Scott, A. Hulme, E. Langferd,F. Ward, J. W. Biseett, W. Bellamy, and J. Buxton. The request of the South Brighton Progress League to have a drinking fountain installed on Estuary load near Bridge street was granted. Correspondence from the Department of Labour in the matter of-the Scaffolding'end Excavation Act, 1922. was referred to 'the Bylaws Committee. ,The South Brighton Progress League wrote protesting against the removal of day from the Estuary by the Council for the purpose of blinding Eetuary road. Works Committee recommended thai the roadway adjacent to Mr Jones's new shops in Bowhill road be repaired at Mr Jones's expense; that Jubilee avenue should be put in order, that the two turning places previously authorised should be put in immediately, and that the new formation work should be gone on with in its turn; that data be collected in connexion with the new bridge for the use of Mr Toogood; that the footpath in Richmond terrace south of Bligh street be re-Traded; that Mr flocks be thanked for his offer to allow the Council to connect his well with the side channel in Bowhill road; that the matter of connecting! certain deep wells with the side' channels at South Brighton be left with Crs. Muirson, Ward, end the overseer, and that this committee also carry out by day labour the erection of an underground fire sump in Estuary road; that Mr J. Steffan be advised thai ao there was more than one applicant for m site for a miniature railway, tenders would be called for the lease; that, in addition to forming Government road, the contract should include* the formation and sooriaing of Pacifio road from the Esplanade to Jubilee avenue; that steps be taken to have the name Government road changed to Jutland street; that, as soon as scoria is available, Richmond terrace from the bridge to Union street be widened and scorised.—Adopted. The Finance Committee recommended that the application of Mr Ward for a remission of rates be refused; that the plan of subdivision of Lot 100, D.P. 140, B.S. 18836, Esplanade, be approved; that an application to fit np certain rooms over business premises in Bowhill road be referred to the Town Clerk to obtain legal opinion.—Adopted.
