RED POLL BREEDERS.

ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The firat annual meeting of the New Zealand Red Poll Cattle Breeders' Association was held at the Central Development* Farm, Levin. Mr J. W. Harding (VVaipukurau) presided, and other members present we're: Messrs 3. L. Bruce (Agricultural Department), A. E. Anderson . (Piriaka), W. Leask (Waikato), W. J. McCulloch (Centred. Development ,Farm), T. Beade'l (Tai Tapu), G. W. Osborne (Canterbury), G. Macfarlane (Woodville), B. W. Harvey (Waverley), and N. Inder, secretary (Dannevirke). The president stated in his annual report: Since the formation of the Association in June, 1921, I am pleased to say that the breed has received a good deal of additional recognition by tbe breeding public and the dairymen, due undoubtedly to the merits of the breed as a hardy and thrifty animal and* a heavy and persistent milk producer; our cattle during the past season producing up to and over 5001b. of butter-fat (365 days), and milking for as long as fourteen months in <sne lactation period. There is hot a grtat deal of progress to report in Association matters up to the end of our financial year, but since starting on our new year your Council decided to close the first volume of the herd book, and it is gratifying to note that wo will have aver 350 entries —73 male's and 284 females. Also, sinco tbe beginning of the current year seven new breeders have joined the.Association, bringing our membership up to 22, and 12 prefixes have been regisisteredV Your Council hope to have the herd book published by the end of the calender year. . The report and balance-sheet, the latter showing a credit of £3 14s 3d, were unanimously adopted, the chairman adding that the Association was making headway and membership gave promise of growing during the coming year, whilst enquiries were being made as to the registration of further animals. 1 A notice of motion by the chairman I in the direction of encouraging -the use ! of the higher classes of sires was adoptled.

A motion by Mr Inder specifying-that members whose subscription or fees were in arrears at any meeting would forfeit their right to take part in the business of the meeting, was adopted. The chairman moved, in accordance with notice, that inspectors and judges be appointed, and that instructions regarding type, etc., fo,r the said inspectors and judges ho compiled at this meeting. The motion was carried, and the secretary stated that Messrs. Beadel, McCulloch, Leask and Anderson had been appointed official judges. It was decided that the name of the chairman (Mr Harding) be added to the judges. The official judges were appointed inspectors for the purpose of inspecting entries of B, C, and D classes of animals for insertion in the. herd book.

Officers for the year were elected as follows:—Patron, l>r. Eeakes (re-elect-ed); president, Sir Heaton Rhodes; vicepresidents, Messrs J. L. Bruce and J. W. Harding; council, Mrs P. D.
