MR MASSEY'S CHALLENGE.
v ** ..' " ' BEPLY TO CHARGES OF CORRUPT ACTIONS. (special to "the press.") STRATFORD, November 10. "Many attempts have been made to create an impression that this Government has been guilty of corrupt or improper actions," said Mr Massey during his speech here to-night. "I am prepared to offer this challenge: If any* person can prove that anything of the kind has been done by this Government, I am quite prepared to stand down and let some other man take my place." "What about the second-hand crockery!" asked a member of the audience. "I think the story of the secondhand crockery is the most arrant nonsense that I have ever heard," retorted 'Mr Massey. "The suggestion that some, person was paid large fees to inspect the cups that were to be used by, members of Parliament is too absurd." The Prime Minister proceeded to assure his audience 'that the Government had got very pood value for the fees paid to a firm of engineers in London for the inspeciton of machines and materials bought by the State Departments.
