CANADIAN VIEWS ON REV. WYNDHAM HEATHCOTE.
In view of the Rev. Wyndham Heathcote's claims to special knowledge of Prohibition conditions in Canada, the following cable received November Ist by the hew Zealand Alliance from Toronto is interesting:— "Heathcote bird of passage only. Knows nothing Canadian life, conditions or ideals. Amazed at his grotesque misrepresentations. December last Ottawa Unitarian Church then vacant accepted Heathcote temporary supply sent by American Association. :V Immediately previous he had served Melbourne Australian Unitarian Church. Left Ottawa May last for Wellington. Ottawa borders on wet Quebec therefore 1 poor test Prohibi- • tion yet law great success there. Harold Fisher, former mayor, has stated notwithstanding sale Liquor across river Prohibition admitted by everyone great success. Arrests for Drunkenness reduced but no criterion as formerly drunken persons assisted home and allowed to go now all arrested. Most noticeable benefits amongst those who never reached Police. Moderate drinking and drinking by young men practically wiped out. Results physical and financial incalculable. Hotel accommodation adequate, Frank H.
