STRUGGLE WITH A SHARK.
A long but successful tussle with a shark, which took place in the Manukau Harboujt, near tho Mange-re Bridge, on Tuesday afternoon, afforded a thrill of excitement to a considerable number of Onehunga residents. The eliark was sighted in the harbour last week, and a sharp look-out for the unwelcome visitor had since been kept. On Thursday Mr J. Heece, of Onehunga, and his twelve-year-old son went out in.a 17ft dinghy with a specially-prepared lino fitted with a couple of buoys. The shark took;the bait about two o'clock,, and then followed a display of skilful and patient manoeuvring on the part of the tishermen. The shark did not attempt to attack the boat, but for two hours it baffled' its captors' efforts to drown it. After being played for cbout that space of time it was drowned in the operation of the buoyed line. The shark. whicliA measured 10ft in length, weighed nearly 4001b. It belongs to a species which are generally found in pairs and which are regarded as difficult to catch. A look-out is being kept for the second shark, which it is assumed may be in the vicinity.
