OBITUARY.

ME W. M. JOYNT. The death occurred on Thurefliy night, after a short illness, of Mr William Midway Joynt, manager of the Chrietchurch branch of the National Insurance Company. Mr Joynt, who was born in Christchurch 62 years ago, was a nephew of the late Mr Thomas I. Joynt, senior partner of the legal firm of Joynt and Percivql (now Joynt and Andrews). After being educated at tho Warwick House School (Christchurch), he accepted employment with L. D. Nathan and Co., merchants, Hereford street. He joined the National Insurance Company in 1885 and in 1898 was made accountant at the Christchurch office. About twenty years ago, on the death of Mr Alexander Carrick, he was appointed manager. Mr Joynt was a member of the Canterbury Underwriters' Association for many years. A bachelor, be was a popular member of the Federal and Canterbury Clubs, and was for some years a steward of the Jfew Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club. For many, years he was a member of the Christchurch Bowling Club, and in his earlv days of the Union Bowing Club and the old Eastern Football Club. Mr Joynt reside at the Royal Hotel. About a month ago he was affected with heart trouble, in consequence of which he entered the Lewisftam Hospital. He had made sufficient progress to be able to leave, but suffered a relapse, which ended fatally. His mother resides in Wellington, and he has a brother, Captain Joynt, in the pilot service at Melbourne. —! I I
