COUNTY COUNCILS.
HEATHCOTE. The Heathoote County Council met lafft night. Present—Crs, W. W. Soarff (Cashmere) chairman, C. Flovell (Heathcote Vallay), A. H. Adams (Hillsborough), and J. H. Mioore (Bromley). The Railway Deportment wrote stating that they were unable to recommend the payment of a grant by the Department towards the cost of the embankment at Fterrymead. An inpecbion of the railway work did -lot indicate any probability of damage which world warrant an expenditure on protection. The letter was received. The Aseiebant-tJnder-SeoretaTy of -the Department of Internal Affairs advised ihit it was impossible to aupply the Council with any information ae to the areas proposed to ibe inoiuded in the city being revalued. If the poll, was carried under section 96 of the Municipal Corporations Act the city could possibly cause a special valuation of new buildings or other improvements to be made. The letter was received.
Regarding the public conveniences at Cashmere, the Tramway Board wrote stating thfct their solicitors had advised that the Board's power to erect shelters and conveniences did not extend to subsidising another local body by subscribing part of the cost of works, neither erected upon land vested in the Boa»d nor under its control. The Board therefore could not accede to the Council's request for help. The letter was revived.
Messrs Davie »nd Harris wrote stating that the committee of the Convalescent Home had advised they could not agree to the Council'* request in the matter of a tramway ehilter site. The chairman said the Convalescent H r n)» trustees had previously agreed to sive tbe Council a lease of the site at a peppercorn rental. ■ The Council decided, on lm motion cf Mr FJavell, to notify the trustees that, as they had failed to give the lease, the Council would collect rate* on the property. Mr Flavell saidi the agreement wag that a lease of the site should be granted, and that the Council should not collect the rates. The Town Clerk notified that the W-»fc« Committee of the City Council agreed to th« carrying out of the proposed work on Kerrs road from Wainoni road to Wopdham rond, provided the estimate of £l5O was not exceeded. ' ' The letter wa» received. Mr W. T. Chadewood forwarded * contribution of £lO to the Dyer'e Pass road shelter shed.
