METROPOLITAN TROTTING CLUB.

SPRING MEETING. CONCLUDING DAY. The New Zealand Metropolitan Club was favoured with beautiful weather yesterday for the concluding day of its Spring Meeting. There was practically no wind, the track was in faster condition than it had been on the preceding days, and the racing generally was full of interest, for though some of the oveiits were won with comparative -saHe, there was always a good battle for the place-money. The attendance was enormous, but the totalisator investments showed a slight falling-off, the figures for the day being £85,051 10s, as against £87,590 10s last year. The total for the meeting was £221,943, as compared with £225,476. The general management of the meeting with Mr A. I. Rattray in charge of the business details was characterised by the efficiency that is always in evidence at Addington, and the gathering may be written as in every way successful. The Governor's Handicap, which opened the programme, did not produce a very high-class display of trotting. St. Anthony, who was made favourite, never looked like overhauling the leading division, and Peter McKinney, the second favourite, made several breaks. Tiny Moon was always one of the leaders, and trotting steadily throughout, won comfortably. The American-bred Lee Norris showed a good turn of speed over the last half-mile, but was never able to fully extend the winner. Sir Wildmoor, who was third, would probably have been much closer up but for a couple of bad breaks. Auguste Dillon, Tommy Direct, and Agathos were backed in that order for the Enfield Handicap, but the front markers set a very solid pace, and Auguste Dillon and Agathos were never able to make up their handicaps. Ben Dillon was one of the early pace-makers, and just faded out ovor the final stages, Lear Dillon finishing strongly and beating Tommy Direct by two lengths, with Ben Dillon a length away. Ben Lomond put in a fast run over the last two furlongs, and was in front fifty yards from the post, but stopped badly under pressure, and was beaten into fourth place. Moneymaker was scratched at the lastminute for the Christchurch Handicap, in consequence of the Judicial Committee refusing permission for J. Bryce to be substituted aa driver for A. Newdick, who had driven him on the two previous days. It was a very interesting race, for six furlongs from home the field was well bunched. Lady Swithin, who had begun very smartly, led all the way to the straight, and appeared to have the result in her keeping whan Hal Junr., finishing with great determination, beat her by a neck. Tatsy Dillon paced a sound race in third place, as did Vice Admiral and Trix Pointer, who finished behind her. Vilo, after losing some ground at the start, gathered her field quickly, but the effort evidently proved too much, for her, and. she waa beaten three furlongs from home. Gold Boy looked dangerous with half a mile to go, but failed to run on, and Onyx did not race well. The bracketed pair, Trix Pointer and Sherwood, carried most money, Lady Swithin being second favourite, while the winner paid a double-figure dividend. The Australasian Handicap, of two miles, in Baddle, did not attract a very high-class field, and Princess Zoe won very comfortably. Peter Mac stayed on well in second place, but Bhe no chance with the winner. Nellie Scott showed plenty of speed, but she was set too hard a task, and she had nothing left at the finish. Oratorio, who was made favorite, gave a poor display, and Medallions lost his chance by beginning badly. The eleven ac- ! oeptors went to the post for Ihe Do- ' minion Trotting Handicap, one of the biggest raees of the year for unhoppled trotters. Tradesman, First Fashion, and Kola Boy were backed in that order, but the two back-markers found it impossible to concede the starts they were asked to give awav, and Kola Boy refused to begin until his chance was hopeless. Effie Bingen, beginning well, and trotting without a mistake, led all the way, but had to be driven out to beat Bed Heather. Gay Wilkes broke repeatedly, but lost nothing by doing so. First Fashion, Tradesman, and whisht all broke at various stages, while Gold Boy was never able to get near the leaders. The Hornby Handicap provided little excitement, aa Imperial Fan quickly established a good lead, and was never afterwards troubled, winning easily. There was a eobd race for second place, the honours going to Duke Whips, with Prince Lyons, the favourite, close up, and Coil and Pinevale next. The Lyttelton Handicap brought about the downfall of one of the hottest favourite of the meeting in Latbna, who began well, but was beaten a good way from home. Wild Thyme took charge with three furlongs to go, and he quickly placed the result beyond doubt, registering a fast performance. There was spirited betting over the last race, the Sprinters' Handicap, which brought out a very smart field of pacers. The second favourite, Ena Bell, began very smartly and, leading all the way, won with a-' good deal in hand. The winner, who is owned and trained in Gisborne, won the same race twelve months ago, and 'is unquesitonably a very speedy pacer.
