Major-General Sir George T. M. Bridges, who has been nppointed Governor of South Australia, was in the retreat from Mods. He was sent back to St. Quentin to round-up stragglers. He found them in a state of collapse, bat with the aid of a toy drum and a tin whistle he marched them a distance of 28 miles. In 1917 he lost a leg as the result of a wound. He was knighted in 1919.
