It is possible that in the near future Sydney "University lecturers will be appointed for the subjects at present marked in England. The New System. The arts and science papers at the pass grade will be forwarded by the supervisors to Wellington. They will be divided according to the four centres, and marked by the examiner appointed. The papers will then be sent to the professor of the subject concerned at the College from which they came. He will mark them, and in general the average of the two results will be taken. The final decision of pass or failure will rest in every case with the apDointed examiner, but in doubtful cases the professor has the right to forward class exercises and any other evidence of good work done hy the candidate during the year. The general opinion appears to be that the standard of the vaea examination has been very considerably raised bv the papers set by New Zealand examiners so far. It is expected that the results will arrive by cable from Ensland about the third week in February next year, and that the Senate will consider the mailed results about I the middle of April.
