The Joint Commission on Agricultural Enquiry in America has been investigating the various factors of the cost of a loaf of bread on its travels from the wheat fields to the family table. It illustrates the fact that the weak point in our economic life is the matter of distribution. Of every dollar the householder pays for bread 29.6 cents goes to the farmer, 8.4 is required to. get the wheat ready for baking, and* 10.16 cents is consumed in manufacture. Fifty cents, or onehalf, is absorbed, in the expense of distribution. A new policy has been adopted by the Lwids Department in regard to historic Spote on the "Wanganui river, which it is now proposed to hand over to the River Trust Domain Board for scenic reserves. The initial fruits of this policy *ere manifested at a recent meeting of the trust, when it was stated that a icserve, Puk«henau, at Pipiriki, had been handed over to the trust.
