ELLESMERE. Tie monthly meeting of the Ellesmere Jaunty Council, held ait Leeston on Monday, /as attended by Crs. J. Cunningham chairman), John Healop, W. 0. Bennie, <ohn Nixon, and J. P. McEvedy. T'he Ellesmere Lands Drainage Board for.varded a return showing the value of its irea. to be £'308,179, end the value of that /art in the Ellesmere County £45,624. ( The balance-sheet was received from the \udit Department, certified aa correct. The vudit fee, the clerk .said, was £3 less than asi year. The clerk to the Leeston Town Board rroto thanking the Council and the county ?lerk for assistance piven, and consideration shown in connexion with the formation ~>i the town district. Mr Herbert Gardiner wrote agreeing to the Council obtaining gravel from a pit on His 'and at Irwell. Messrs J. H. Skinner and "W. Adams waited on the Council and asked that culverts should be put in oh the Tram roid, and the road from Fraser'o corner to Mr H. W. Johnson's.—Thiß waa agreed to. The deputation also asked thait a race on the School road, Dnnsandel, be re-graded.— This request was also erantcd. Cr. McEvedy mentioned that Inwood's Dip road was not in satisfactory condition. Works Committee and enginoer to inspect. The engineer reported that the Council was now in full control of the new fishing reserve at the RaJcaia, river mouth. He wished to acknowledge the assistance given 'o this matter by th<! Commissioner of "rown Lands (Mr G. H. Buliard). The stibidies asked for public works in the county liad all been granted by- the Government. Altosether £538 had been plaoed on the Public 'Works Estimates. It was pointed out that the clerk to the Kllesmere Licensing Committee received a salary of £3O .per annum, whereas the clerk *o the Riccarton Licrmsin? rnmived only £l3 18s. .Members thought £3O for four imeetrngg very handsome payment, considering that much of *he work was done bvHhe respective country clerks.
